TEXTILE DESIGN BA (HONS), UNIVERSITY OF LEEDS

Trish HIggins Photography-110.jpg

My design aesthetic takes inspiration from a variety of cultures and environments. Having travelled to over 25 countries globally, I like to explore exciting cultural elements and details in my work. In addition to travelling, I have a love for sports. I aim to combine bold prints with innovative details and technologies.

Experience:

During my degree, I gained experience working as a Graphic Design Intern at O'Neill, in the Netherlands. I created graphics and prints for mainly womenswear, however also gained experience in menswear and children's wear. I learnt huge amounts about design as well as the product development process. This experience provided me with greater confidence within my own work and provided me with skills which can be transferred to a range of industries.

Recent Work:

In my final university collections, I aimed to create a difference in my designs, while still considering market trends. I have achieved this through:

  • Utilising design technologies, specifically laser cutting and 3D printing.

  • Being commercially aware. Even though I want my designs to be unique, I still consider trend forecasts and consumers' needs.

  • Considering sustainability. Creating and contributing towards sustainable collections is essential. As an individual who loves exploring the world, it is necessary that I aim to protect the environment and its resources.
